Daren,

The default string is the optimum one.  Just an fyi -- in some cases, a
better throughput can be achieved by removing Data Compression (using
AT%C0) since a lot of Internet files are already compressed.

I have just purchased a zoltrex 28.8 v34 internal modem which responds
to ati6 with RC288DPi Rev 04BC.  I am using it mainly for internet
access via my university's system.  I am curious, do I need to alter the
init string to make it run faster.  I am currently using Trumpet Winsock
2.0 registered, with internal slip port at 115,200bps.  Are these

Best Data has WinRPI 2.22 Beta

I got 'WinRPI Version 2.22 Beta' from the Best Data BBS (818-773-9627) 
I have a MaxTech 14.4k modem, model # XM144I, it is RPI. 

One obvious performance benefit is uploading, sending long E-Mails, and
using the WWW browser at the 14.4k connection!  Before the AOL shell
would invariably lock-up! 

I decided to test download performance as this has never really given me
any problems.  I found that using WinRPI gave me about a 10% boost in
file transfer rates!

What is VoiceView ?

 
Sounds like you want to do VoiceView from Radish.. try emailing
info@radish.com, They have plenty of documentation on the protocol :)

It's all about right. VoiceView is a standard feature in some Rockwell
voice chipsets and I believe we are the only Radish certified vendor
of VoiceView hardware, except Radish itself of course. This
technology, based on Rockwell chipsets on their modem products, was
announced at Spring COMDEX by Boca and Cardinal.

VoiceView is an alternating voice/data protocol which was created by
Radish Communications Systems. It has been openly licensed to most
major modem and modem chip/DSP vendors. In addition voice response
system vendors such as Dialogic, Digital Sound, and Octel have also
licensed the technology. It allows both audio and visual information
to be transmitted between to people during a call or between an
automated voice response or voice mail system and a caller. It works
over analog, digital, and hybrid phone systems.
 
The first VoiceView certified modem is now available from Boca
Research.  Others will follow in the next couple of months. The Boca
product ships with software from Radish called TalkShop. TalkShop not
only allows message/file transfer between two people but provides
access to call up multimedia services such as listening to and
ordering CDs over the phone and viewing flower arrangements and
ordering flowers over the phone.  Access from new services as they
come online will be available via download from Radish.
 
"Certified" VoiceView Products can be easily identified by the
VoiceView Certified logo which includes the distinctive VoiceView
phone handset with three colored balls. Only high quality products
which have been tested against the VoiceView protocol specification
and tested for interoperability with all other VoiceView certified
products will bear this logo. Products which have implemented some or
all of the VoiceView Protocol but have not gone through the test suite
may use the VoiceView name but not the logo. So consumers who are
looking for a quality product which has been tested and should
interoperate with other VoiceView Products and services should be sure
to purchace a product with the VoiceView Certified Logo.
 
Also as the two gentlemen from Rockwell have stated, Rockwell is the
first to have modem chipsets available which implement VoiceView.
Microsoft's WIN '95 also provides access to VoiceView features. You
will see a lot more to come in the next few months on VoiceView based
services.
